Moving towards Net-Zero
Human-induced climate-change is the largest, most pervasive threat to the environment and societies the world has ever experienced, a UN expert said. We must act now to limit global-warming. EK is committed to the Paris Agreement and contributes to limiting the global-temperature-rise to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels. This means that EK will become Net-Zero by latest 2050, whilst drastically reducing GHG emissions by 2030.
Currently we are mapping our emissions from the EK buildings, fleet and commuting & travelling of employees. Consulting company ClimatePartner is helping us with mapping and setting annual reduction targets to achieve our Net Zero ambition. Insights will soon be shared on this page.
EK reforestation project
In addition to reducing its own emissions, EK contributes to offsetting emissions through campaigns that are enabled together with partners and employees.
Parallel to Black Week, EK held a major Green Friday campaign for the second year in a row. After last planting 7,500 trees in 2021, EK’s strong specialist retailers were able to collect a further 10,400 trees in 2022. All the trees go to an EK reforestation project in the Teutoburg Forest Germany. In total, the EK forest now comprises 17,900 trees and 71,600 m² of land. More information you can find here.
